Marcelo Luna

Giant wave surfer up to 25 meters high

Born in São Bernardo do Campo, a city in the ABC region of São Paulo, Macelo Luna has three consecutive nominations for the Big Wave Awards of the World Surf League, considered the biggest award for giant wave surfing on the planet, and his name is already honored at the surf museum in Nazaré, Portugal, where the biggest surfable waves in the world occur and which has become his passion since he faced the huge bodies of water for the first time, in 2015.

The man from São Paulo was introduced to the sport at the age of 16 through a friend and, from this initial contact with a board in the water, even though he didn’t know how to swim, he discovered a new meaning in life and continued determinedly in pursuit of his dreams. “Thanks to surfing I got rid of drugs, it was surfing that changed my way of seeing things and interacting with others”, declares the surfer.

Currently, Marcelo Luna is participating in the 1st Surfland Big Wave Brazil Challenge, which will consecrate the biggest waves surfed in paddling (without the use of a jet-ski) on the coast of Santa Catarina, between June 18, 2020 and July 18, 2021 .
